Coach Jim Bail
14U | Head Coach
With over a decade of coaching experience and a lifetime dedicated to the game, Jim Bail leads the NEA Wildcats U14 Majors team with a unique blend of expertise, humility, and purpose. A former Division I player at both West Virginia University and West Chester University, Jim later played semi-pro ball with the Springfield Springers before transitioning into coaching at every level—from youth to college. His collegiate coaching résumé includes time at Sam Houston State University as a hitting and catching coach, and later as the Head Coach at Franklin Pierce University. Locally, Jim has been the hitting and catching coach for Windham High School for over 15 years and has led numerous Legion, Senior Babe Ruth, AAU, and WBSL teams. He is also the founder of Jim Bail’s Hitting Academy, which has helped shape young athletes for over 25 years.
Jim holds certifications in CPR, concussion protocols, youth suicide prevention, and anti-bullying training—further evidence of his commitment to both the physical and emotional safety of his players. His coaching philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that youth sports are not about the coach—they’re about who the players become through the experience. While some of his players have gone on to college and even professional baseball, what matters most to him is the growth he sees in each athlete as a person. Baseball, to Jim, is the best metaphor for life, instilling inner confidence, strong will, and grit that serve players well far beyond the field.
Jim is a coach who sees potential before problems. He teaches to the upside, guiding his athletes through demonstration, explanation, and mentorship—especially in the mental side of the game. He emphasizes positive self-talk, learning from both success and failure, and focusing on effort over results. His leadership style is subtle yet impactful: praise in public, correct in private, and always lead with integrity.
One of Jim’s most cherished coaching memories isn’t about a championship—it’s about being invited to stand in the wedding of one of his former Legion players, a testament to the lasting relationships he builds through baseball.
Fun Fact: Jim was a Major League Baseball Scout for the Atlanta Braves (1993 - 2010) and the San Diego Padres (2016-29).
Outside of coaching, Jim is a passionate woodworker who enjoys designing games and furniture, especially during the experimental R&D phase. He also takes great pride in watching his adult children thrive. Most of all, he finds joy in the everyday moments with his wife, Kim, and continues to be endlessly curious about science, with a particular fascination for quantum physics and the nature of space, time, and matter.
